By understanding who the advertisement or partnership campaign will be targeted to, athletes can determine whether or not the particular deal is one that is fit for them. Because each athlete has their own portfolio and personal brand, not all deals are suitable for all athletes–and that’s okay! Choosing deals that have an audience aligned with your intended market, will ensure both parties are benefiting.
May I sign with an athlete agency to manage my NIL-related activities?
Answer: Yes. However, student-athletes may use an athlete agent or attorney only for the purposes of securing NIL-related compensation. Student-athletes may NOT secure an athlete agent or attorney for the purpose of marketing their athletic abilities to professional sport organizations.
This is all about social media, isn’t it?
Not all about it, but social media will be a huge source of income for athletes. Lots of them already have huge followings on social media, and they already have the influence that comes with the big follower counts. Now, they can finally cash in, with paid tweets/endorsement, advertisements on their YouTube pages or any way “normal” social media heavyweights have cashed in for years. The playing field is leveled.
